The Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs is the primary international treaty on Narcotic drugs. National drug control laws and their administration should be guided by the Single convention. It establishes a framework to prevent illicit trafficking (or diversion) and abuse of drugs (such as opioids) and also to ensure their availability for legitimate medical purposes. It is relevant to many opioid analgesics, such as morphine, fentanyl, and oxycodone.
